Class Information

​

  SPRING 2024 Obedience Classes Start March 19.

 

Classes are offered by the Club with training by various club members from basic obedience to competitive rally.  Our instructors will walk you through the basics of dog training and train you to train your dog.  All of our instructors are volunteers and happy to help with any questions you may have whether it be related to training, behaviors, or your dog’s health and wellbeing.  The classes we offer range in difficulty and are open to all breeds and mixes.  A copy of vaccination records is required at registration.

Classes listed below will be determined and are subject to change.

 

STAR Puppy – This class is for puppies 4 – 12 months old and teaches you how to best communicate with your puppy. Classes are aimed at earning the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy distinction.  You’ll be able to get information on all of your puppy-raising questions including housetraining, chewing, and the most effective way to teach practical skills such as coming when called as well as basic obedience.  AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy training is a natural lead in to our Basic Classes and The AKC Canine Good Citizens Program.  Puppies that complete STAR Puppy get a certificate from AKC.   Tuesday nights @ 6:30 PM

Basic Manners Class – for dogs 8 months and older.  This class teaches the fundamentals of obedience and covers sit, down, come, basic walking on a leash and stay and works on basic manners with your dog.   Tuesday nights @ 7:30 PM

ABOVE Classes include a Collar, Leash, and Training Bag.

Canine Good Citizen Class – for dogs 8 months and older.  This class is aimed at helping your dog succeed at passing the Canine Good Citizen Evaluation. Each class we will work on different elements of the CGC Evaluation and help your dog Become a Good Citizen!  After Class the Canine Good Citizen evaluation is offered. This is included with the class fee.

Schedule will consist of Monday or Thursday Nights. Tentative Schedule subject to change.

March 14, 18, 28.  April 4, 11,15, 25, 29 and May 2

Advancedfor dogs 8 months and older That have passed  their Canine Good Citizen. In this class dogs will earn their  Advanced and Urban AKC® Canine Good Citizen® title.  In this class, you will continue to grow your skills to ensure a well-behaved dog while you’re out and about in the community or active city setting.  Some of the things the class will cover are duration in stay, Heeling, Distractions, Engagement, Recalls and more. Following graduation of this Advanced class, the AKC® Community Canine (CGCA) Evaluation and the AKC® Urban CGC (CGCU) Evaluation will be given.  The CGCA and CGCU evaluations are included in the cost of this class.  

**A CGC title is a prerequisite for this class ** One CGC evaluation is included with this class. Schedule will consist of Monday or Thursday Nights. Tentative Schedule subject to change.

March 14, 18, 28.  April 4, 11,15, 25, 29 and May 2

ABOVE Classes DO not include a Collar, Leash, and Training Bag. They are available for an additional fee.

Agility – This class is an introduction to agility.  Dogs over 1 year old.  These classes will start after Obedience Classes are completed.  Dogs should have gone through one of our obedience classes to be eligible for our Agility Class.

Rally – Interested in competing in Rally?  This class will help prepare you.  Must have taken Basic class. If interested let your instructor know. This class will begin once the Advanced class is complete. Anyone interested in this class should have been through a basic class.

 

Trick Dog – Trick dog seminars will be held at various times.  If interested let your instructor know. DATE/TIME TBD based on Interest

CLASS REGISTRATION

​

Class registration is ONLY  Online.  Classes fill quickly - Don't Delay. Registration Opens February 6.

Classes are $90 plus online fee. There are NO REFUNDS once you have registered for class. 

Only one person is allowed to handle dog during class.  Family Members may come and watch but the same handler should bring the dog to class.

Equipment Pick up and Instructor Meet n Greet will be in person

  • Tuesday, March 12th at 7:00 pm.   It is held in the rear parking lot of the Citizens Healthplex, 9406 Zac Lentz Parkway, Victoria, TX 77904.

  • Bring a copy , that we can keep, of your dog's Vaccination records.

  • Bring your dog.

Class Orientation

  • Tuesday, March 19 th at your class time will be orientation. This is considered the first night of class and will be held WITHOUT YOUR DOG.   

 

Start of Classes

  • March 26th. Classes are once a week for 7 weeks, with the possibility of weather delays. This will be discussed during orientation March 19.

  • All classes are held in the rear parking lot of the Citizens Healthplex, 9406 Zac Lentz Parkway, Victoria, TX 77904.

Handlers under 18

Junior handlers are welcome in our classes. They MUST be able to control the dog they are handling.  

A parent or sibling over 18 must attend with the junior handler and be at the side of class ready to help if needed.

Only one handler per dog.
